What happens in a session? Sessions are tailored to your needs, goals, and circumstances. Your initial session is an opportunity to discuss what brings you to The October Hour, identify what you hope to accomplish, and collaboratively determine an approach for moving forward.
Do you offer phone consultations? Yes. A brief 15-minute consultation may be requested to ask questions, determine whether The October Hour may be a good fit, and discuss next steps.
Do you accept insurance? Private pay only. Not superbills provided.
Do you offer sliding-scale services? All services are private pay. If you were previously a client of Dr. Kay's as a preteen or teen, and are under the age of 26, please inquire about available sliding-scale or pro bono opportunities.
Groups, Workshops & Trainings
Do you offer group services? The October Hour periodically offers workshops, educational groups, and experiential programming. Availability varies. Check the current offerings or contact us to inquire about upcoming opportunities or private events.
Do you offer continuing education (CE) for therapists? Yes. The October Hour offers continuing education trainings for therapists and mental health professionals. Contact to request a live training or gain access to our home-study archive.
Do you work with organizations and teams? Yes. Organizational services may include consultation, leadership and organizational design, assessment, workshops, and other collaborative projects. Please contact directly to discuss your specific needs.
Creative Work
I know Dr. Kay as an artist. Where can I request a custom piece? The October Hour occasionally creates commissioned artwork, objects, stories, and other custom experiences. Availability depends on the nature and scope of the project. Contact directly for your inquiry.
Can I commission something from The October Hour? Sometimes. The October Hour is also a creative studio, and select projects may be available for commission. Custom work may include art, writing, objects, or immersive experiences. If you have an unusual idea, you're welcome to ask.
Where can I purchase The October Hour's creations? Available products and experiences can be found in Experiences & Creations, including the Odyssey Box, Lost Pages, Matrix Quests, and other works as they become available.
Do you ship? Yes. Pricing may vary depending on product and location.
Can I purchase an Odyssey Box as a gift? Absolutely. It is recommended to purchase the Open-Adventure, unless the recipient is able to complete the Sorcerer's Queries themselves, then the Curated Adventure is best.
WHY 'THE OCTOBER HOUR'?
An hour can be surprisingly expansive. Within a single hour, perspectives can shift, new connections can emerge, and something that once felt fixed can begin to look entirely different. The October Hour was named for that experience: a dedicated space to pause, reflect, explore, and see anew. October also represents transition. It is a season of changing landscapes, shifting light, old traditions, and new beginnings—a fitting metaphor for the moments when we find ourselves between what was and what comes next.
WHY AN OCTOPUS?
The octopus is curious, adaptable, intelligent, playful, and remarkably resourceful. It can camouflage itself, navigate unfamiliar environments, solve problems, regenerate lost limbs, and learn throughout its life. It is also wonderfully strange. Those qualities reflect much of what The October Hour values: adaptation without losing yourself, curiosity in the face of uncertainty, resilience after disruption, and the freedom to approach familiar problems in unfamiliar ways.
